Gingerbread Cake

Ingredients

Cake

  • 1/2 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1/2 cup Butter
  • 1 Large Egg, beaten
  • 1 cup Molasses
  • 2 1/2 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Baking Soda
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ground Cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup Very Hot Water

Vanilla Cream Sauce

  • 1 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1/2 cup Butter
  • 1 cup Heavy Whipping Cream
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla Extract

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350F; grease a 9×13 inch pan with cooking spray
  2. In a bowl, cream together the sugar and butter until smooth; add the eggs and molasses; mix well
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the dry ingredients together; add dry ingredients to the wet mixture; stir to combine; slowly pour in the hot water; stir until smooth
  4. Pour batter into prepared pan; bake for 35-40 minutes until toothpick comes out clean;
  5. Vanilla cream sauce: add sugar, butter and whipping cream to a saucepan over medium heat; cook stir occasionally until butter is melted
  6. Bring mixture to a boil; boil, stir frequently for 3-5 minutes; remove from heat; add vanilla
  7. Allow to cool before pouring over cake; top with sliced bananasÂ
