Ingredients
- 1 cup Buttermilk, room temperature
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
- 1 teaspoon Vinegar
- 1 ounce Red Food Coloring
- 2 cups Granulated Sugar
- 1 cup Vegetable Oil
- 2 Large Eggs, room temperature
- 2 1/2 cups Cake Flour
- 1/4 cup Cocoa Powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons Baking Powder
Directions
- Preheat oven to 325F; grease and place parchment paper in three 8 inch round cake pans
- In a medium bowl, add buttermilk, vanilla, vinegar and red food coloring; whisk to fully incorporate; set aside
- In a large bowl, add sugar, oil, and eggs; whisk together until smooth
- Add cake flour, cocoa, and baking powder to the sugar mixture; whisk until just combined
- Add buttermilk mixture; whisk until just combined; do not want any lumps but be carefully not to over mix
- Pour batter evenly among the three cake pans; bake for 22-25 minutes when a toothpick comes out clean it is done
- Allow to cool before frosting with this cream cheese frosting
