Red Velvet Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Buttermilk, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1 teaspoon Vinegar
  • 1 ounce Red Food Coloring
  • 2 cups Granulated Sugar
  • 1 cup Vegetable Oil
  • 2 Large Eggs, room temperature
  • 2 1/2 cups Cake Flour
  • 1/4 cup Cocoa Powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Baking Powder

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 325F; grease and place parchment paper in three 8 inch round cake pans
  2. In a medium bowl, add buttermilk, vanilla, vinegar and red food coloring; whisk to fully incorporate; set aside
  3. In a large bowl, add sugar, oil, and eggs; whisk together until smooth
  4. Add cake flour, cocoa, and baking powder to the sugar mixture; whisk until just combined
  5. Add buttermilk mixture; whisk until just combined; do not want any lumps but be carefully not to over mix
  6. Pour batter evenly among the three cake pans; bake for 22-25 minutes when a toothpick comes out clean it is done
  7. Allow to cool before frosting with this cream cheese frosting
